Things to Do in Aspen Colorado

World-Class Skiing & Snowboarding at Aspen Snowmass

Aspen Snowmass is made up of four distinct mountains, Aspen Mountain, Aspen Highlands, Buttermilk, and Snowmass, all accessible on a single lift ticket. Aspen Mountain, known locally as Ajax, rises straight out of downtown and offers classic Colorado steeps just minutes from the pedestrian mall. Aspen Highlands is the locals’ favorite, home to the legendary Highland Bowl, and some of the steepest inbounds terrain in the state. Buttermilk is the beginner friendly mountain and the annual host of the Winter X Games, known for its massive terrain parks and superpipe. Snowmass rounds things out as the largest of the four, with the most acreage and terrain variety in the valley. Together, the four mountains combine for more than 5,500 skiable acres, making Aspen Snowmass one of the most complete ski destinations in North America. Full listings below.

The Aspen Institute brings global thinkers to town for talks and the annual Aspen Ideas Festival, while Theatre Aspen stages professional summer productions in Rio Grande Park. Historical Things to do in Downtown Aspen Colorado

Downtown Aspen centers on two car-free pedestrian malls, the Hyman Avenue Mall and the Cooper Avenue Mall, paved with hundreds of thousands of antique bricks and lined with galleries, restaurants, and international designer boutiques like Prada, Louis Vuitton, and Gorsuch. The Hyman Avenue Mall is home to the Dancing Fountain, a computerized water feature dating back to 1979. Historic buildings like the Wheeler Opera House and the Hotel Jerome anchor the district, giving downtown Aspen a blend of Victorian mining town history and modern luxury that feels closer to Rodeo Drive than anywhere else in the Roaring Fork Valley.
