Cripple Creek Backcountry Description

Cripple Creek Bike & Backcountry has been a community-driven outdoor gear shop since its founding in 2012 by a group of dedicated backcountry skiers in Carbondale, Colorado. What began as a focused backcountry ski shop at 582 Highway 133 has grown into a multi-location retailer with shops in Avon, Denver, Willits, Silverthorne, Aspen, and Seattle, while maintaining its roots as a local hub for human-powered adventure in the Roaring Fork Valley.

The shop covers two core disciplines year-round. On the ski side, Cripple Creek Bike & Backcountry specializes in ski touring, splitboarding, and telemark skiing, stocking avalanche safety equipment, bindings, boots, and technical apparel suited for Colorado’s backcountry terrain. The cycling side expanded through a partnership with Basalt Bike & Ski and now carries road, gravel, mountain, and electric bikes from brands including Specialized, Giant, Santa Cruz, Pivot, Transition, Open, Pinarello, Cervelo, and Yeti, among others. The shop has developed a particularly strong e-bike program, offering one of the broader e-bike selections in Colorado across commuter, gravel, and enduro categories, with techs trained in battery and motor servicing, electronic shifting, and suspension.

Beyond retail, the store runs bike and ski rentals along with tuning and repair services handled by trained technicians. The shop regularly hosts demos, events, and educational clinics for both experienced and newer backcountry enthusiasts. Store hours run Monday through Saturday from 10am to 6pm and Sunday from 10am to 5pm.
