Heirlooms Description

Heirlooms has operated out of downtown Basalt on Midland Avenue since 2003, and carries women’s and men’s clothing and footwear, furniture, home goods, jewelry, art, accessories, and what the store itself describes as oddities. Displays are curated with care and rotate consistently, mixing on-trend clothing with vintage finds and furniture that ranges from everyday functional to hard-to-categorize one-offs.

The consignment structure at Heirlooms follows a 45-day agreement with a 50-50 split on the selling price. Items are priced based on supply and demand, marked down to half price after 30 days on the floor, and donated to a local charity if unsold at the 45-day mark. Consignors can pull items at any time and collect payouts by calling or stopping in. The store runs a detailed seasonal intake schedule: winter clothing and ski wear from October through a February 20 deadline, spring from March 1, summer from May 10 through a July 31 deadline, fall from July 13, and holiday clothing beginning November 8. All items must arrive freshly cleaned and pressed, and the selection process is guided entirely by what the store’s customer base will actually buy.

Heirlooms is open Monday through Saturday 10am to 6pm and Sunday 10am to 3pm. Owner Brenda McCartney has been working in the resale industry since 1984, when she got her start at Gracy’s, one of Aspen’s earliest consignment stores. She purchased Heirlooms in 2004 and has grown it steadily since, applying decades of category knowledge to both the buying side and the curation of a floor that keeps shoppers coming back throughout the valley and beyond.
