Sioux Villa Curio on 6th Street in downtown Glenwood Springs has operated continuously since 1955, making it one of the Roaring Fork Valley’s longest-running retail businesses at 70 years. The store sits one block from the Glenwood Hot Springs Pool and is marked out front by Old Joe, a life-sized wooden statue that has served as the store’s open signal for over 20 years and become a recognized local landmark in its own right.

Inside, the store functions as a classic roadside curio stocked by over 500 vendors, creating a dense and eclectic inventory that spans Colorado and Glenwood Springs souvenirs, apparel, Native American jewelry, arts and pottery, Minnetonka moccasins and boots, rocks, minerals, gems, and beads. A working nickelodeon on the floor adds to the store’s 5-and-10-cent store atmosphere, and a smashed penny machine draws younger visitors. The novelty and gag gift section stocks items like whoopee cushions, rubber snakes, and plastic ice cubes with bugs, alongside old-fashioned penny candy and hard-to-find snacks that lean into the store’s nostalgic identity.

Owner Matthew MacQueen has maintained the store’s unconventional character while keeping inventory fresh through its wide vendor network, balancing historical Americana with a rotating mix of collectibles and gifts.
