The Aspen Art Museum is a admission free contemporary art venue located in Aspen, Colorado, founded by artists in 1979 as a non-collecting institution committed to advancing contemporary art and driving cultural change through exhibitions, critical dialogues, and community engagement. Inspired by the alpine landscape and Aspen’s history of experimentation and exchange, the museum embraces creative possibilities that emerge when artists leave their imprint on the institution. The Aspen Art Museum presents innovative international exhibitions alongside dynamic showcases of local artists through rotating biannual exhibitions featuring diverse mediums including painting, sculpture, installation, video, and performance art.

The museum occupies the Marx Phelan building with 33,000 square feet of total museum space, including 17,500 square feet dedicated to exhibition space. Visitor Services representatives assist guests at the main entrance with exhibition and upcoming events information. The Education Workshop provides an interactive area designed for personal reflection and hands-on engagement, offering books, games, and art activities for visitors to explore. The Museum Shop operates on the street level, featuring a specially curated selection of unique items for all ages and artist-made souvenirs, with purchases supporting both artists and the museum’s artistic and public programs.

The Aspen Art Museum offers complimentary wheelchairs at all museum entrances on a first-come, first-served basis, and portable stools are available at no cost by asking staff members at the main lobby. Visitors may bring personal motorized wheelchairs or mobility devices. Swedish Hill Aspen, located on Level 3, provides food and beverages for purchase, though outside food and beverages are not permitted in the museum, and consumption is restricted to designated areas outside the galleries, Education Workshop, and Museum Shop.
