Aspen Golf Club Description

Aspen Golf Club sits two miles from downtown Aspen right off Highway 82, delivering championship public golf, full practice facilities, and clubhouse dining against a backdrop of the Continental Divide and Pyramid Peak. As one of the longest municipal courses in Colorado, Aspen Golf Club stretches over 7,100 yards from the back tees, yet multiple sets of tees keep the mostly flat, walkable valley layout accessible to golfers of every skill level. Views from the fairways extend across Mount Hayden, Independence Pass, Hunter Creek Valley, and the three ski mountains that ring town, Aspen Mountain, Aspen Highlands, and Buttermilk.

The course took shape in the 1970s, when architect Frank Hummel converted what had been a cow pasture into a parkland-style layout defined by undulating greens and water that comes into play on fourteen of the eighteen holes. Architect Rick Phelps led a renovation completed in 2019 that rebuilt several greens and added a new bunker system, sharpening the course’s character without changing its fundamentally challenging nature. Aspen Golf Club holds Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary designation, and the grounds also support a six court tennis complex, a modern practice area, and the Dede Cusimano Golf Academy, which works with players ranging from beginners to competitive amateurs using real-time feedback and self-directed practice tools.

Daily operations run through a PGA award-winning pro shop, cart rentals, and full-service locker facilities, with Red Mountain Grill handling food and beverage service overlooking the greens. Aspen Golf Club stays active through the winter as well, running an indoor Full Swing Golf Simulator for members who want to keep their swing sharp between seasons, while the grounds themselves shift over to support the community’s Nordic trail network once snow arrives. Between the golf operation, the tennis club, and the seasonal simulator, Aspen Golf Club functions as a year-round recreation hub rather than a course that closes down once summer ends.
