Aspen Science Center Description

Aspen Science Center is a nonprofit organization serving as the only nonprofit in the Aspen to Parachute region focusing exclusively on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math education for people of all ages. Founded in Aspen in 2005 by George Stranahan and a group of STEM education-oriented individuals, the center has been delivering hands-on, engaging, bilingual programs and events designed to spark curiosity, cultivate critical thinking, and illustrate how science can be used to better understand the world.

Through strong partnerships with local communities, schools, and other nonprofits region-wide, Aspen Science Center delivers year-round programs directly in each community it serves, bridging gaps in STEM education, creating opportunities for lifelong learning, and building a STEM-empowered citizenry. Programming includes summer camps, adult programs, youth internships, after-school programs, PreK-12 educational offerings, and Snowmass tours. The center offers interactive exhibits, hands-on activities, and community events that engage visitors of all ages in scientific learning, with seasonal events like science festivals and STEM-based family programs exploring physics, biology, chemistry, and more in a welcoming, informal environment.

Summer months feature expanded options such as science fairs, open labs, and outdoor learning sessions. Events often take place at partner locations throughout the Roaring Fork Valley, encouraging broad community participation. Children and families can attend regular workshops and public science nights, while adult learners have access to lectures, discussion panels, and demonstrations by visiting scientists. The center brings science out of the classroom and into everyday community spaces, making STEM education more approachable and engaging for residents and visitors.
