Breathtaker Alpine Coaster Description

The Breathtaker Alpine Coaster is a year-round alpine coaster attraction located at Elk Camp on Snowmass Mountain in Snowmass Village. During the winter season, it operates as one of the primary non-ski activities available to visitors and is commonly paired with snow tubing and Ullr Nights programming. The coaster features an elevated track that extends for more than a mile through forested mountain terrain and reaches speeds of up to 28 miles per hour. Riders sit in individual or shared sled-style cars and control their speed using hand-operated brakes.

The coaster is designed to accommodate a wide range of ages and experience levels. Guests can ride at a slower pace to take in views of the surrounding snowy landscape or choose a faster descent depending on comfort level. Secure seating systems and clearly marked loading areas are in place, and height and safety requirements apply. Reservations are required, and winter operations are weather-dependent. The Breathtaker Alpine Coaster is accessed via the Elk Camp Gondola and is located near Snowmass tubing lanes, making it easy for guests to experience multiple activities in one visit. Snow tubing features multi-lane courses with banked turns carved into the ski slope. Guests ride single tubes or tandem tubes and return to the top using a covered magic carpet conveyor. Tubing and coaster activities can be booked separately or together through combo tickets that include gondola access.

On select evenings, the coaster operates as part of Ullr Nights, a winter event that includes illuminated coaster rides, tubing, gondola access, and additional activities at Elk Camp. Ullr Nights also feature bonfires, hot chocolate, s’mores for purchase, kids’ activities, and access to dinner service at Elk Camp Restaurant. General admission tickets allow guests to attend the event without participating in rides, while activities tickets include unlimited tubing and coaster access during the event. Winter operations for the 2025–26 season generally run from late November through early April, with daily operations during peak holiday and winter months. Guests are encouraged to arrive earlier in the day for the best experience and to check activity status in advance.
