Carbondale Arts Description

Carbondale Arts is a cultural arts center located on South 4th Street in Carbondale, Colorado, providing a wide range of artistic programming, performance opportunities, and community engagement initiatives. Serving residents and visitors throughout the Roaring Fork Valley, Carbondale Arts supports theater productions, live music, fitness and movement classes, visual arts exhibitions, and creative educational programs. The organization fosters inclusivity, collaboration, and creativity, offering spaces and programming designed to bring artists and audiences together while strengthening the region’s cultural identity.

Founded in the early 1970s by community members who recognized the arts as central to Carbondale’s character, Carbondale Arts has been instrumental in shaping the town’s reputation as an arts and culture hub in the Rockies. The organization celebrated 50 years of service in 2021 and continues to engage the community through partnerships with schools, local and state governments, non-profits, and businesses. Programming spans multiple facilities, including The Launchpad, which provides affordable and accessible studio space for movement-based artists and musicians, and the Artique Gift Shop, which showcases local creative work. Carbondale Arts also manages Rosybelle, a mobile maker bus that delivers subsidized and free arts education throughout the Roaring Fork Valley, and promotes over 200 creatives as part of the Carbondale Creative District.

Carbondale Arts organizes annual events and festivals, including the Mountain Fair and the Fashion Show, along with gallery exhibitions and educational workshops, to cultivate community participation and creative expression. The Mountain Fair, now entering its 55th year in 2026, remains a volunteer-driven festival emphasizing collaboration, education, and inclusion, reflecting the values that have guided the organization since its founding. Through these programs, Carbondale Arts supports artistic development, community engagement, and local economic activity while preserving and advancing Carbondale’s creative heritage.
