Carbondale Clay Center Description

Carbondale Clay Center is a non-profit community arts center located on Main Street in Carbondale, Colorado, dedicated to ceramic arts education, studio access, and gallery exhibitions. Serving residents and visitors across the Roaring Fork Valley, the center offers clay classes for adults, children, and families, as well as private lessons, artist residency programs, and community outreach initiatives. Carbondale Clay Center provides opportunities for artists and makers of all levels to develop skills, engage creatively, and connect with a supportive arts community.

Founded in 1997, Carbondale’s Clay Center has spent nearly three decades fostering creativity, connection, and community through clay. The center offers structured classes for all skill levels, seasonal kids programs, adult workshops, and private lessons tailored to individual or small group needs. All work created in private sessions is bisque-fired and clear-glazed by the center unless additional glazing instruction is requested. Community-oriented programming also includes U-Paint-It parties, allowing participants to decorate pre-made bisqueware for birthdays, team building, or family activities, and Fit Family–style workshops that integrate hands-on clay work for multiple generations.

The center supports local artists through monthly shelf rentals, Makers Memberships, and studio space rental, providing technical guidance, material support, and firing services. They also hosts a long-term artist residency program to nurture the development of emerging and established ceramic artists. Exhibitions and retail opportunities are presented through the ArtStream, a rotating gallery housed in a gleaming Airstream trailer on site, featuring work by local, national, and international artists.
