Carbondale Recreation and Community Center anchors the town’s civic life as the primary fitness and recreation destination for residents and visitors throughout the Roaring Fork Valley. Operated by the Town of Carbondale Parks and Recreation Department, the 31,177-square-foot facility stands out as one of a small number of public recreation centers in the country to earn LEED Platinum Certification, a distinction reflected in nearly every aspect of the building’s design and operation. Construction diverted more than 90 percent of waste from landfills, over a third of building materials were sourced from manufacturers within 500 miles, and low-flow fixtures throughout the facility significantly reduce municipal water consumption. A rooftop solar photovoltaic array generates on-site electricity, while engineered bioswales around the perimeter use native Colorado vegetation to capture and filter stormwater before it re-enters the local watershed.

The center’s newest addition, an Aquatics Center, runs entirely on an all-electric thermal system powered by high-efficiency air-to-water heat pumps, eliminating natural gas heating for the pool entirely. Beyond the pool, the facility offers a full complement of amenities: a climbing wall, full and half-court gymnasium, activity rooms, tennis and pickleball courts, athletic fields, a bike park, and a skate park. The Gus Darien Hockey Arena hosts hockey and broomball, and a seasonal family ice rink operates at the Rodeo Ground Practice Arena with open skate available daily.

Carbondale Recreation and Community Center serves families, fitness regulars, and community members of all ages, and the facility’s rental program extends access to groups booking gym space, activity rooms, athletic fields, shelters, rinks, and more. Day passes and memberships are both available. The center is open Monday through Thursday 6am to 9pm, Friday 6am to 7pm, Saturday 8am to 5pm, and Sunday 10am to 4pm, with closures on major holidays.
