Classical Saturdays (Music on the Mountain) Description

Music on the Mountain is a summer concert series held at the top of Aspen Mountain, formerly known as Classical Saturdays. The series runs from July 5 through August 16 on Saturdays, with performances beginning at 1 PM. Students from the prestigious Aspen Music Festival and School showcase their talents across strings, brass, woodwinds, piano, and voice in this high-altitude setting at 11,000 feet. The concerts take place in a glorious meadow overlooking Mount Hayden, located just a short walk out Richmond Ridge from the top of the Silver Queen Gondola.

Concerts are free with the purchase of a gondola ticket CP Burger, allowing visitors to pair a scenic gondola ride with an outdoor performance. Attendees can bring a picnic or purchase lunch at the Sundeck restaurant Tripadvisor, and lawn chairs are recommended for seating in the meadow. The gondola is also accessible via a strenuous hike for those who prefer not to ride. Music on the Mountain offers live performances by some of the most talented young musicians in the world, with students performing a repertoire of their own choosing in light chamber music format.

The concerts provide a relaxed atmosphere for music lovers of all ages to experience world-class performances in a casual outdoor environment without the formality of a traditional concert hall. The series highlights emerging musicians and supports the development of the next generation of classical talent. As part of the Aspen Music Festival and School’s summer programming, Music on the Mountain combines music education, community engagement, and entertainment while showcasing the natural beauty and creative energy that define summer in Aspen.
