Crown Mountain Park Description

Crown Mountain Park is a 124-acre recreation complex in El Jebel, sitting between Aspen and Glenwood Springs along Highway 82 as one of the largest outdoor athletic facilities in the mountains. Crown Mountain Park exists because of a land exchange between the U.S. Forest Service and Eagle and Pitkin counties in the mid-1990s, which transferred roughly 130 acres into public recreational use and became the foundation for the park as it operates today. Managed by the Crown Mountain Park and Recreation District, Crown Mountain Park draws an estimated 500,000 visits a year from residents and visitors across the midvalley.

The park’s athletic footprint includes ten soccer and lacrosse fields, two baseball and softball fields, four tennis courts that also host pickleball, sand volleyball courts, and a two-acre pond, along with outdoor fitness stations and a mile-long paved walking loop that connects to the park’s native and riparian trails. Crown Mountain Park’s dog park is one of its most heavily used amenities, drawing separate sections for large and small breeds and logging roughly 100,000 dog visits annually. The bike park at Crown Mountain Park has become a destination in its own right, with a BMX race track, an asphalt pump track, progressive dirt jump lines, an airbag landing, a mulch jump area, and dedicated strider and beginner sections that bring in more than 150,000 visits a year on their own.

Where much of the surrounding valley is defined by protected forest land and passive open space, Crown Mountain Park is built for structured, high-use recreation, hosting youth sports tournaments, fitness programming, and community events on a scale the rest of the midvalley doesn’t have. A playground with separate infant and child swing areas rounds out the family-facing side of the park, making Crown Mountain Park as much a daily gathering spot for midvalley families as it is a competitive athletics venue.
