Independence Pass Outfitting Company Description

Independence Pass Outfitting Company provides guided horseback riding experiences and outdoor adventures in the high country east of Aspen along Independence Pass. The family-run business has over fifty years of experience in the outfitting industry, having previously worked in Telluride, Ouray, and Lake City before establishing operations in Aspen. Daily horseback rides depart from a location on Independence Pass on the left-hand side of Highway 82 after mile marker 54, operating during the warmer months when the pass is open.

Horseback riding options include one-hour rides departing at 1:30 PM for $80, two-hour rides departing at 9:30 AM and 3 PM for $160, half-day rides departing at 9:30 AM and returning at 1:30 PM for $260, and all-day rides departing at 9:30 AM and returning at 5 PM for $400. All rides include saddlebags, rain slickers, and water, with half-day and all-day rides also including lunch. Breakfast rides depart at 8 AM for $130 and include a one-hour ride to Lost Man Reservoir followed by cowboy coffee, orange juice, fresh fruit, scrambled eggs, bacon, hash browns, and toast served inside by the wood stove or outside by an open campfire. Dinner rides depart at 6 PM for $180 and feature a one-hour ride to Lost Man Reservoir followed by beverages, salad, bread, ribeye steak, baked beans, baked potato, corn on the cob, and hot apple pie.

Fishing trips on horseback combine trail riding with access to remote streams and lakes. Two-hour fishing trips cost $210, half-day fishing trips cost $310 with picnic lunch included, and all-day fishing trips cost $450 with picnic lunch included. Fishing poles and tackle are supplied, though fishing licenses are not included. The company also offers overnight pack trips and hunting excursions during hunting season with licensed guides in designated wilderness areas. Guests are responsible for transportation to and from camp.
