Mountain Kids Academy Description

Mountain Kids Academy is Aspen’s premier athletic skills camp, operating since 2007 as a dynamic summer day camp experience that utilizes multiple sports to develop a variety of athletic skills in children. The camp is owned and directed by Jared Thompson, who brings 31 years of experience coaching and inspiring kids, including 24 years as the PE Teacher at Aspen Elementary School. Mountain Kids Academy’s mission is to foster team-building, confidence, connections, and enthusiasm for an active life within and beyond Aspen’s mountain environment, building a positive foundation for a lifetime of physical fitness and lasting friendships through athletics and backcountry education.

Athletic Skills Sessions at Mountain Kids Academy focus on four core team sports: soccer, lacrosse, softball and baseball, and basketball. The camp emphasizes the value of sportsmanship and teamwork for both individual and team success, providing in-depth knowledge of each game. Programs work on basic skills in each sport while also offering advanced skill development for experienced sport-specific athletes. All equipment is provided, though campers are welcome to bring their own baseball gloves or lacrosse gear including helmets, sticks, and gloves. Full day campers participate in all offered sports throughout the day, and the program also includes model rocket building activities.

Mountain Kids Academy operates throughout the summer months, serving families in Aspen and the surrounding areas with a consistent, well-organized camp experience that supports physical fitness and healthy habits. The camp focuses on age-appropriate instruction and participation without pushing competition, instead emphasizing fun and skill-building in a safe, structured outdoor environment.
