Sunlight Mountain Resort operates as an independent, family-owned ski area at 10901 County Road 117 outside Glenwood Springs, offering big mountain skiing with small mountain vibes since its founding in 1966 by local enthusiasts and investors. The resort provides 749 acres of terrain across 77 runs with 2,010 feet of vertical drop, ranging from wide-open greens and cruisy blues to expert terrain including The Heathen’s famous 52-degree drop. Sunlight Mountain features the third steepest run and the most expert terrain by percentage of any ski resort in Colorado while maintaining affordability and accessibility for families and all skill levels.

Free parking with direct access to lift areas eliminates the need for shuttle transportation or extended walks, and shorter lift lines create less crowded slopes throughout the ski season compared to larger resort destinations. In summer 2025, Sunlight Mountain completed the biggest investment in resort history by removing two iconic centerpole chairlifts and replacing them with modern chairlifts, significantly improving the skier experience from standpoints of safety, comfort, and accessibility while maintaining the original vision of providing skiing the way it used to be.
