Thug Yoga Description

Thug Yoga is a unique yoga experience in Aspen that blends hip hop culture with traditional yoga philosophy, founded in 2008 Thug Yoga plays rap music during class because it feels more authentic than harmoniums or whale sounds, creating pose names familiar to the shredder world. Classes emphasize breath over pose and allow modifications for every body, based on the purpose of yoga as getting to your true authentic self. The classes remain full with a low fee of $10 per person with mat included, or donation for anyone who doesn’t have it.

Berkel, an employee at Radio Boardshop and DJ known as Berkel Beats, creates custom mixes for classes and spins at special events. The program also features Hair of the Downward Dogg, a brewery-sponsored class that started when a student needed to drink a beer to recover from a hangover and brought it to class.

Thug Yoga TY Primetime classes run Mondays and Wednesdays at 7 PM during winter 2025/26 at Radio Boardshop in Aspen, with participants bringing their own mats or requesting one at sign-up. The classes welcome shredder bros and babes who would have never set foot in a traditional Aspen yoga studio, helping them gain flexibility, strength, balance, breath, and awareness. Thug Yoga creates an inclusive environment where participants explore yoga practice while connecting with music and cultural elements that resonate with their personal experiences.
